Have you heard? The Pantone Color of the Year is Marsala and before you know it we’ll be seeing it everywhere.
To some, the color may seem a bit dark especially when it comes to spring weddings and beginning of the year fashion. But according to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute,
“Marsala enriches our mind, body and soul, exuding confidence and stability. Marsala is a subtly seductive shade, one that draws us in to its embracing warmth.”
While the color will obviously take over the runways this year it can be applied to just about anything…including your flowers!
Burgundy Dahlia, Purple Ranunculus, mini Cymbidium Orchid, Red Burgundy Mini Calla Lily, and Red Astilbe are just a few of the flowers that helped inspire this year’s color choice. The possibilities are endless!
Anxious to see what I could come up with, I decided to put together my own arrangement at J. Morris Flowers. I chose to combine scabiosa, Peony, Sweet Peas and hanging amaranthus while adding in a few roses.
It’s important to keep in mind that Marsala can come in a variety of shades. The good news is that there are a number of options when it comes to the accent color world.
To bring in a little light, I used Pink Flair Scabiosa
along with Ivory tea roses “Majolika”.
I also added a little bit of Spirea and Veronica. The end result was a gorgeous antique arrangement.
Flower trends are constantly evolving and as your floral designer I want to make sure you get exactly what you’re looking for while still being able to take advantage of the hottest looks. This hearty, yet stylish tone can be universally appealing and I can’t wait to see it translated into your upcoming event.
