Will Meghan Markle’s Bouquet Mirror Diana’s?

Jennifer Morris

As you can imagine, my favorite part of a royal wedding is the flowers. Yes, we are surrounded by flowers every day. But, I like that the Royal family weddings have always included blooms with special meaning. For example, Queen Victoria carried Snowdrops in a bouquet that also included the Royal trademark Lillies of the Valley, because they were cousin Albert’s favorite flowers.

I might have been a little too young to remember many details from the wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles, but my sister Heather ernestly watched the entire coverage with our grandmother Sybil and her best friend Ruth Vanderhoof. Later, at 16, when I helped Heather design her own cascading bouquet (1990), we included Stephanotis and Ivy, just like Diana’s.

It will be quite surprising if Meghan Markle’s bouquet cascades like Diana’s. We can’t wait to see the design by Phillipa Craddock.

Earlier this week, we found some posts that suggest Meghan’s bouquet may pay tribute to Diana’s bouquet in the form of white Garden Roses. We decided it would be interesting to diagram the flowers in her bouquet for you to see. The pictures on the internet are quite grainy since they were taken on film. It’s really hard to identify the smallest flowers but we know that the bouquet included Stephanotis, Freesia and Lillies of the Valley. You can use the button below to read the blog by holidappy.com that we used as our source to identify the flowers used in Diana’s bouquet.

Here’s a side view of Diana’s bouquet where you can see the Stephanotis and Freesia that would be wired to reach the cascade holder. Gardenia, Garden Roses and Lillies of the Valley are in the bulkier part of the bouquet at the top. And finally, we see the Orchids on the far left with their rose colored centers.

Below is just one of the posts that we found referencing the white Garden Roses featured in Meghan’s bouquet.

Enjoy your early Saturday morning with coverage on ABC beginning at 5:00 am.
